Elisabeth, can't you imagine that you could love someone so terribly that just because of it you couldn't go to bed with him?

Jamie: You know, I do believe in magic... I was born and raised in a magic time... in a magic town... among magicians... Most everybody else didn’t realize we lived in that web of magic, connected by the silver filaments of chance and circumstance, but I knew it all along. See? This is my opinion; we all start out knowing magic. We are born with whirlwinds, forest fires, and comets inside of us. We are born able to sing to birds and read clouds, and see our destiny in grains of sand…but then we get the magic educated right out of our souls. We get it churched out, washed out, spanked out, and combed out. We get put on the straight and narrow and told to be responsible. Told to act our age. And you know why we were told that? Because the people doing the telling were afraid of our wildness and youth, and because the magic we knew made them ashamed and sad of what they’d allowed to wither in themselves. After you go so far away from it, you can’t really get it back. You can have seconds of it, just seconds of knowing and remembering...
Alex: When people get weepy in movies, it’s because in that dark theater, the golden pool of magic is touched, just briefly…
Mouth: ...then they come out into the hard sun of logic and reason again, and it dries up, and they’re left feeling a little heart sad, and not knowing why...
Haley: When a song stirs a memory...
Quinn: ...when motes of dust turning in a shaft of light takes your attention from the world...
Dan: ...when you listen to a train passing on a track at night in the distance, and you wonder where it might be going...
Brooke: ...you step beyond who you are and where you are...
Jamie: ...for the briefest of instance, you have stepped into the magic realm. That’s what I believe.

You know those friends that always bring out the perfect emotion in you? Whether you're reminiscing about your perfect love story or sitting in a hospital waiting room with bloodshot eyes at four in the morning, simply enjoying the bliss of your morning coffee or making plans to run away from everything you've ever known, that friend always has that perfect blend of joy and grief to let you know that you're not alone.

I feel like people get lost when they think of happiness as a destination. Well, we're always thinking that someday we'll be happy. You know, we'll get that car or that job or that person in our lives that'll fix everything. But happiness is a mood, and it's a condition, not a destination. It's like being tired or hungry. It's not permanent. It comes and goes, and that's okay. And I feel like if people thought of it that way, they'd find happiness a lot more often.

I could love you, you know. I'm not saying that I do, I'm saying that I could, which is rare for me and deserves to be acknowledged.

Well the booze is always helpful and so is the art. Everything that I write is either for her or about her. So I'm with her, even when I'm not.

That's the eternal dilemma isn't it? Home sweet home versus the wild call of the world outside your door.

How do you do it, Hank? The woman that you love is out there and you know you can't have her. How do you even get up in the morning?

Maybe that's your problem, Dad. You see it as winning her back. There's no winning in this game. You're not some white knight on a steed. She's not some fairytale princess. She's just as fucked up as you are. And just as incredible.

I had a bird once. Love of my life, she was. I fucked it up, of course. I thought there'd be time. Turns out there's just roads. Long and paved with potholes. I read that once in a book. Go and get her, pal.
